ICICLE Update and May 2025 Community Call with Olle Bälter and Ric Glassey of Technology-Enhanced Learning Research Group, KTH Royal Institute of Technology University, Sweden
The ICICLE monthly community call is May 21st at 12pm ET. We are excited to have Professors Olle Bälter and Ric Glassey, innovators in educational engineering and leaders of the Technology-Enhanced Learning research group at KTH Royal Institute of Technology University in Sweden. They will share insights on Pure Question-Based Learning (pQBL), a development of the question-based learning used in the Open Learning Initiative, and the advantages of pure question-based learning.
We’ll be meeting via Webex. (See details below with meeting code and password.) It is scheduled for one hour’s length. Full agenda will be posted here.
Learning about Learning Engineering
Sixth International Education Forum: Learning Engineering
VI. International Education Forum: Learning Engineering is taking place in Ankara, Turkey at TED University with the Turkish Education Association on 24th May 2025. The conference will examine the multifaceted and pivotal dimensions of learning engineering through a scholarly and interdisciplinary lens.Exploring Learning Engineering Design Decision Tracking
Over the past five years, a team at MIT has actively developed, used, and shared Learning Engineering Evidence and Decision (LEED) tracker as a tool to navigate learning design challenges. This journal article written by Lauren Totino and Aaron Kessler, Exploring Learning Engineering Design Decision Tracking: Emergent Themes from Practitioners’ Work, describes how the research examines how practitioners track, communicate, and iterate their design decisions, offering insights into the sources of influence shaping these decisions.Share your knowledge, ideas and thoughts about Learning Engineering
Share your knowledge and thoughts about learning engineering in the Learning Engineering Design Challenges Survey, led by Jeanine DeFalco, Travis Falstad, and the team at Mixta Ré, Inc, to get a better understanding of learning engineering design challenges and Learning Engineering as a Profession Research Study, led by Kürşat Çağıltay and his colleagues at TED University, which is exploring perceptions surrounding the recognition and acceptance of learning engineering as a professional field.
Join a Focus Group Discussion on P2247.2 AIS Interoperability Standard
You’re invited to a focus group to inform the IEEE Adaptive Instructional Systems (AIS) Workgroup on June 6, 2025 at 10am ET. The group is developing an interoperability standard for AIS to define data and data structures used in interactions and exchanges between systems and components that provide adaptive instruction. They seeking input, use cases and pain points to inform the standard. Register for the focus group discussion on June 6, 2025 at 10am ET.
Special and Market Interest Group Work
Special Interest Groups and Market Interest Groups is where much of the work in ICICLE happens. The groups develop resources and document experiences for the learning engineering community. Participate in one, two or all of them.
